ELLY

ELLY (East London International Women’s Health Appeal) aims to build a network of sustainable partnerships, to support and educate women locally and globally, enabling all women to have access to optimal maternal healthcare.

‘With the support of the KT Network, midwives at the Royal London hospital are conducting midwifery led research, giving midwives a voice in the provision of
midwifery led care  and ultimately, a stronger maternity workforce.’ – Libby Tibbitts, midwife

RESEARCH
Our research partners are the Katherine Twining Network (QMUL) and Barts Health NHS Trust group of hospitals. Our research focuses on women’s health, mainly maternal health, referring to the health of women during pregnancychildbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. It involves health care dimensions such as fetal wellbeing and pregnancy, in order to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality. Despite the significant advances in healthcare care over the last 75 years, pregnancy is still associated with relatively high rates of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality worldwide. We have an excellent reputation worldwide and highly regarded as a research institution. We hope with your help we can make a real difference both in the UK and internationally.
TRAINING and DEVELOPMENT
The Royal London Hospital Women’s Health Research Unit were pioneers in developing the multi-disciplinary team approach aspect for PROMPT (Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training). Maternity emergencies require fast, safe co-ordinated responses by a trained multi-professional team. We provide this training through our preceptors in the UK and abroad. It is associated with direct improvements in maternal and baby outcomes. It has been proven to improve clinical skills and team working. Our training focuses on new ways that involve being prepared, positive and adopting a realistic approach to obstetric emergencies. We focus on ‘how’ our actions are monitored and supported in a simulated training environment. We are assisting in the development of new technological tools for advances in training. We will make a difference with your help.
GLOBAL PROGRAMMES
Each maternal death is a tragedy and preventable. According to the World Health Organisation, more than 350,000 women around the world still die every year from pregnancy related complications – 99% of them in developing countries. Inexpensive interventions can save these lives. We hope to translate our innovations in research and training to prevent these lives being lost in many parts of the world. You will help us deliver assistance to so many women still hurting and dying unnecessarily as a result of childbirth.
