Who is Katherine Twining?
Katherine Twining was the first Matron and the founder of Plaistow Maternity Hospital (established in 1889 as St Mary’s District Nurses’ Home). It was opened by Queen Mary in 1923. The Hospital became part of the National Health Service in 1948. Its services are currently delivered through the maternity provision at Newham General Hospital. The Women’s Health Research Network is in her memory.
